NHK announced a new anime adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic novel Anne of Green Gables, titled Anne Shirley. Produced by The Answer Studio (Kami no Tou, Golgo 13), the anime will premiere on NHK-E in April 2025. First published in 1908, the novel has been translated into 36 languages and sold over 50 million copies. Previous adaptations include Nippon Animation's 50-episode anime in 1979, a 39-episode prequel in 2009, and a 2010 recap film at the Ghibli Museum.
Synopsis: Anne Shirley, an imaginative and hot-tempered 11-year-old orphan, unexpectedly finds a home with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, who originally sought a boy for farm work. This new chapter in her life, spanning ages 11 to 17, leads to life-changing decisions.
